The calm after the brainstorm

Finally finished brainstorming. The process took longer than we expected but we are happy with the results.

We started by figuring out what our team represents. For example, we are all uni students, 3 of us grew up in rural areas and 3 of us are bilingual. We moved on to identifying the issues and problems we have faced in using libraries. Going with the flow, we also added issues faced by other people. We were able to group most of the issues into specific categories such as accessibility and multilingual. Analyzing the technology in use inspired us to come up with ideas for solving these problems.

We nailed down the specific demands of the problem statement (bottom of the image) and based on our previous work, chose a specific problem that appealed to us the most. Designing for multilingual support in a highly text based environment provides interesting challenges and has real impact. We picked up parts of the other problems which were somehow connected to our main problem. Even during this phase, we started noting down some requirements and basic features of our design.

To make sure we are on the correct track, we did a quick feasibility and practicality analysis. We found that 32% of Victorian population speaks multiple languages or doesn't speak english at all. Further, about 30% of the households didn't use English as their primary language. So, there is definitely an audience for our future design.
